Welcome to These Forests are Ours. This podcast is produced by BC Interior Forestry Museum, located in Revelstoke, British Columbia. This podcast aims to engage people in the forestry sector to discuss the intersection between forestry practices and sustainability. The podcast explores, among other things, what the values of multiple stakeholders with interests in our forests are, and how to protect these values. Feel free to come to our museum and check out our great displays on forestry, or use our riverside trails to explore our beautiful Revelstoke.

In this episode, we discuss the past, present, and future of BC interior forestry with experts Brian Sumner and Barb Wadey.
Brian has been with the BC Interior Forestry Museum since its inception in 1999 and has served as board Chair for the past several years. Brian has had a varied and lengthy career background as a logger, log house builder, youth probation officer, child welfare worker, supervisor and consultant. He was recently named Citizen of the Year by the Revelstoke Rotary Club for his volunteer work.
Barb is on the Board of the BC Interior Forestry Museum. She has 35 years employment with the Ministry of Forests Lands and Natural Resources and has worked in Port McNeil, Fort St John, Dawson Creek and Revelstoke. Her most recent positions as a Professional Forester were Stewardship Forester and Compliance and Enforcement Forester. Both positions involved evaluating Forest Tenure holders practices and performance in relation to the Forest and Range Practices Act.

In this episode our guest is Jim Shepherd. Jim has been working in the BC Forest Industry for over 40 years as a mechanical engineer. He has managed companies like Finlay, Crestbrook, Slocan, and Canfor. Jim has worked in the manufacturing of paper, pulp, lumber, and engineered wood products.

In this episode our guest is David Raven. David graduated from UBC with a forestry degree. He came from a family of foresters and worked in the BC Ministry of Forestry for more than 20 years before being elected as the Mayor of Revelstoke, serving from 2008 to 2014. He brings his years of insights as a forest manager and an elected local leader to the show, as we discuss some of the challenges and opportunities facing the forestry industry in BC today.

In this episode our guest is Mike Copperthwaite. Mike is currently the General Manager of the Revelstoke Community Forest Corporation, an important part of the Revelstoke community. He has decades of experience in the forestry field. He will share his thoughts on community-led approaches to forestry practices.
